Hey all, my computer's been out of date for a while, and is dying a slow death, so I've been thinking about getting an upgrade. I have at least 2 years of computer gaming to catch up on... Just wondered if any of you might have suggestions. Not quite sure I can afford them, but was looking at the following systems: Zoostorm 65-6406 - tinyurl.com/q5lypuChillblast Sidewinder - tinyurl.com/ou6aqcMesh Matrix II 940CS - tinyurl.com/q3fup9Mesh looks like the best for the price (I can upgrade the gfx card and it's still cheaper). Or maybe worth waiting for Windows 7 in October? Ta, Para

How did I know that that was going to be the first suggestion?

The chillblast seems expensive for the spec and the Mesh uses AMD processors which have been well beihind Intel for quite a while now. The zoostorm seems quite reasonable and has a pretty good spec for the money. Have you looked at Scan (www.scan.co.uk) or yoyotech ? Try visiting the Custom PC website and look at some reviews as they find some hi-spec machines for very good prices

MAC sucks, it's only good if you will go into a proffesional world where fast comps are necessary, like Graphic Designer, s**t like that. (Guess what, I am one. Wait till Windows 7, then buy a new comp with it. Definetly better than Vista.

Good point Muffin. Save your cash at the moment and go for a Windows 7 machine later in the Year. Vista is pretty bad......

Mesh Matrix II 940CS is the best, I perfer, it has all it's stuff up to date, to compete with other machines. And I probly wouldn't want to wait for another year to get a new computer, I would want to get one fast after 2 years.

Macs aren't just for Pro's!
Fair enough. My new computer that I'll get at some point will set me back around £3/5K - I just did the same grading with the Chillblast PC listed above. It came out about half the price!!
At the end of the day whatever you do the worth of any machine is bugger all once it leaves the store.

True for most of the components but the processor sucks and in a years time will be left for dead. It is way slower in terms of processing speed than even the cheaper Intel Core 2 Quads. I used to buy AMD for every PC I built but I wouldn't touch AMD with a barge pole at the moment. They will get better but at the moment Intel are top by a mile

Thanks all - that's good to know about the AMD processor. I wouldn't have figured that out myself. And yeah, I have a feeling I'm going to wait for Windows 7 just to avoid Vista. October 22nd is launch, apparently. And thanks for the other sites - will check them out. Maybe I'll even think about building one....eek.

Windows 7 is comming in 22 october indeed. Some computerstores are going to offer (soon) a vista to Windows7 upgrade for free. So you can upgrade for free than.
My options: 1. Build your own system or let a store build it. At least use the following stuff: CPU: Core i7 920 GPU: ATi 4890 RAM: 6 GB DDR3 OS: Vista 64bits
2. Wait till September/October and buy/build a Core i5 system. Core i5 is going to be cheaper than Corei7 because the cpu is cheaper and the motherboard will be cheaper. It doesnt use Triplechannel RAM so 2x2GB DDR3 is enough. (also cheaper than 6GB) And the speed of the system should be a little below the Core i7 920 as they say.
PS: Get a 64bits OS for using all the memory, if you get 32bits you cant use more than 3.2GB RAM!
